Meet Johnny from Jaipur, India

The people of India are extraordinarily friendly and genuinely want you to have a great time when visiting their county. While waiting for friends, I met Johnny who was working as a guard at one of the Jaipur forts.

Johnny asked me if I was enjoying the fort and my visit to Jaipur. Then he started to tell me about his elephants. His family owned 5 elephant and he was so passionate about them! He told me stories of funny things they do. He then skyped his brother to show me what the elephants were doing. We chatted to his brother and saw the elephants eating.

This was such a random, fun encounter that I will always remember. By the way, I have Johnny's phone number so when we are in Jaipur we can meet Johnny and his elephants!

This is not one of Johnny's elephants. Just a random elephant walking the streets of Jaipur. This is common near Amber Fort as the elephants are used to transport tourists up and down the hill. They are also still used in wedding ceremonies.

Elephants are not native to the north of India and there is a sanctuary called Elefantastic which is trying to break the cycle of elephant tourism. You can choose to visit the sanctuary as one of the optional activities on our tuk-tuk day tour. Here you will have the opportunity to spend an unforgettable day taking care of an elephant.
